Generally, the classic Annapurna Base Camp Trek requires 11 to 14 days itinerary including arrival and departure. However, the Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek is just 9 days long for a complete journey. The question remains about the difficulty level. Please note that the route is completely different from classic and short itinerary. Trekkers meet the classic route in Chhomrung. The Ghorepani Poon Hill section is in the classic itinerary but it is not included in the shorter version.

You are completing the trek in fewer days. Therefore, you must be fitter than usual. Normally, the difficulty level of the trek is moderate. If you can walk for about 6 to 7 hours in an average without worries, then you can easily complete the trek. The biggest hurdle is the long staircase style uphill and downhill sections. Altitude is also a factor but it is not as arduous as in the Everest Base Camp Trek route in the Annapurna Base Camp Trek route.

How to reach trail head of ABC Trek in Nepal?

The trail head of the 9 Days Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek in Nepal is Jhinu Danda. Travelers have to drive from Pokhara on a shared or private jeep to this place. It takes around 1.5 hours to 2 hours to reach the trail head. The cost of the jeep starts from NRs. 7000 to NRs. 8000.  

Annapurna Base Camp Short Route Trek Distance

The trekking distance of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek route is around 65 kilometers to 77 kilometers depending upon the route. However, the Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek distance ranges from 55 kilometers to 60 kilometers. It largely depends upon the side trips that you take. The starting point of the short trek is either Motkyu or Jhinu Danda. Similarly, the trail end place is also the same place. Therefore, the overall trekking distance ranges around 55 kilometers.

Accommodation and Meals

The trail of the ABC Trek in Nepal is definitely the commercial trekking route. In fact, it is one of the major trails of Nepal alongside the Everest Base Camp Trek, the Langtang Valley Trek, and the Annapurna Circuit Trek routes. Therefore, you can find quality tea houses and eateries along the trail. You may not find high quality luxury mountain lodges but you can surely find basic tea houses with standard rooms. Nowadays, some tea houses may provide attached bathroom. Higher elevation places may have limited room choices.

Trekking Permits for Annapurna Sanctuary Trek

The single permit of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project is enough for the trek. The permit costs NRs. 3000 to foreigners and NRs. 1000 to SAARC nationals. Previously, you had to take additional Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) but it is no longer needed. Hikers Himalaya will arrange the permit on online for you. Once you book the trek package, all will be handled by the company. You can simply enjoy the trek without any hassles.

Cultural encounters along the trek route

The Annapurna region of Nepal is a cultural capital of Nepal. The place is home of multi – ethnic communities. Majority of people living in the area are Gurung and Magar People. These people have their own culture, language, traditions, and values. The lower places before the start of the trek have people from different ethnic background. Brahmins, Chhetris, and Dalits are in the lower areas. Mid hills areas are mainly habituated by Gurung and Magar people.

Best season for ABC Trek in Nepal

Welcome to Nepal for an amazing Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek. Our airport representative will be at the Tribhuwan International Airport to receive you. Upon arrival, you will be escorted to your hotel in Thamel or in any agreed property. All trip details will be finalized and you will be introduced to your trekking guide. Day 2

Drive to Pokhara (800m); 6 to 7 hours drive by tourist bus.

Early in the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel and transfer to tourist bus park. Today’s bus journey will be around 6 to 7 hours along the Prithivi Highway. On the way, we will stop for lunch. The road trip can be tiring but the scenery will keep us busy. Upon reaching Pokhara, you will check in to your hotel. In the evening, you can stroll around the lakeside Pokhara. The clamor of this touristic hub is so amazing especially on the shores of Phewa Lake. Overnight in a hotel
Day 3

Drive to Jhinu; Trek to Sinuwa (2300 m) 1.5 hours drive; 6 to 7 hours

Early in the morning after breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel. A private jeep will take us to Jhinu Danda. The road trip is around 1.5 hours to 2 hours long via Kande, Nayapul, and Birethanti. Upon reaching Jhinu Danda, we will start our trek. For about 2 hours, we will walk uphill and gentle Nepalese flat trail to Chhomrung. Lunch will be served and we continue our trek to Sinuwa Village. The first day of trekking ends today. Overnight in a tea house.
Day 4

Trek to Deurali (3200 m) 6 to 7 hours

We begin our trek after breakfast. It’s a second day of the trek. Therefore, you may feel soreness in your legs but you will start to feel okay from today. There are both small uphill sections and Nepalese flat trail sections. Majority of the times, we will walk through green lush forests above the river raging from the base camp. We will have lunch in Himalaya before continuing the trek to Deurali. Overnight in a tea house
Day 5

: Trek to Annapurna Base Camp (4130 m) 5 to 6 hours

Finally, we reach the Annapurna Base Camp today. The first phase of the trek until we reach Machhapuchhre Base Camp is through rugged trails full of boulders and rocks. It is practically walking in glacier. The scenery starts to feel full of Himalayan wilderness. The mountains seem to have edged closer to you. After lunch stop in Machhapuchhre Base Camp, we will start uphill trek to the ridge top. From this place, we will walk on the gentle uphill Nepalese flat style trail to the Annapurna Base Camp. We will stop at the sign board near a small pond to capture the iconic moment of reaching the foothill of the world’s 10th tallest mountain, Mt. Annapurna. After checking in, you can stroll around the tea house and enjoy the majestic scenery of mountains starting from Himchuli all the way to Mount Machhapuchhre including Annapurna Mountain series. We wake up before sunrise and head to nearby hill top to witness one of the best sunrise experiences of our life. The place is truly a Himalayan sanctuary. Snow – capped mountains surround the place and the base camp feels like protected by natural walls. As the sun kisses the tip of the snow – capped mountains, you will see the greatest beauty of Mother Nature. After spending quality morning time, we will return back to tea house for breakfast. Once the breakfast is over, we will check out and trek back to Bamboo village via Machhapuchhre Base Camp, Deurali, and Himalaya. Overnight in a tea house

Trek to Jhinu Danda; Drive to Pokhara same day

It’s a long day of return trek back to Jhinu Danda. We will not rush but do careful downhill trekking. After reaching the Annapurna Base Camp, our mind may rush to reach city quickly. Therefore, we may walk faster than usual but it may backfire. Walking downhill in a staircase style trail can cause serious knee damage. Therefore, we will take it carefully. Upon reaching the Jhinu Danda, we will take a jeep back to Pokhara. You can have free time roaming around the streets of Lakeside Pokhara and celebrate the successful journey of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. Overnight in a hotel

Drive to Kathmandu
